Child labor companies:
There are many companies that use child labor to make their productions like Nike, Adidas, Apple, Samsung, Nestle, Hershey's, Quicksilver, and more. The lives of these children are at risk from diseases and injures at the sweatshop from machines and the chemicals. The sad part is we can change this but we don't because, they make life easier for us. We all buy from these companies so we are really supporting child labor. My question is how far will we be willing to destroy children's lives for our lives to be easy?
Nike and Adidas :
From the brands which more than likely you are buying or have at least one pair. Nike have given us Jordan's and Adidas have given us one of the best running shoes. What if I were to tell you that the best sports companies use child labor so they don't lose money for the products. Both of these are located in Asia like countries like Vietnam or Indonesia because they are both poor countries and have few laws that protect them from child labor. Nike breaks the law in Vietnam because they paid their worker less then the minimum wage which is $45 dollars a month. That's unbelievable that's like 20 cents a hour and they also have to paid for the food which cost about the same as their eight hours. They also have to paid less than an adult because they are kids but they do the same amount of work. It's common for the kids to pass out during work because they don't get the right amount of sleep, food, and water.
Hershey's and Nestle coffee and Chocolate:
Enjoy your 6am coffee run? Like that yummy delight in your lunchbox? What if I told you your coffee and chocolate doesn't come from workers but from young children. There are young kids employed at cocoa plants. Children are forced to pick the cocoa plants and forced to make your chocolate. Do you know how many children are forced to do labor in order to make your yummy delight. Hershey's Chocolate and and Nestle are classic examples of this taking place without the world knowing about. Chocolate, the food that everyone loves to eat and makes people happy when they are sad, but chocolate can make you cry when you hear the truth of the chocolate you eat. Children in African and South America are making this. They work in sweatshops for hours to get about $2 dollars a day of work. "Almost 820,000 children in the Ivory Coast and over 997,000 kids in Ghana were found to be working on cocoa-related activities in 2007/2008, according to Tulane University". So go ahead and eat that last bite of chocolate just remember you are eating children souls with every bite. Just a little to think about.
Samsung and Apple
This one may come out as a shocker but both of the two most popular companies use Child Labor. Let's begin with Samsung. Samsung uses screen made by other companies. However the company was unaware that the company they were partnered with used child labor. Whenever the media or people told them that the company used child labor the company brushed it off as a lie that was until recently. Determined to put an end to all the rumors they conducted a search and found no child labor supposedly. Samsung claimed all the complaints were false and that there was no child labor in that company. The media decided to conduct a little search and what they found will shock you. According to the New York Times they found over 10 kids working in that factory. They showed the pictures to Samsung and Samsung agreed to conduct a higher search. They found what the media and had to chose but to admit that they were using Child Labor. Apple as well was called out in front of the public for partnering up with a similar company. However Apple has completely stopped that partnership. Now that I think about it Apple said in an interview that they stopped making the Ipod classic simply because the parts were very scarce. Coincidence, just something to think about.
